Hello, we are here at the Teltow Canal in
Altglienicke. Today we want to measure the
PH value of the water.
We have small PH sticks to measure
the quality of the water.
The result of the test:
it shows level 6.
It is kind of ok, rather bad,
but we can live with that.
That's a good question.
What's your opinion about it?
We don't like it, because the water gets
polluted through it.
We want to change it because we will
show our programme on the Open Channel.
What do you want to change?
Where do you want to start?
That the people don't throw their waste
into the river but rather use the bins.
I've got another idea. I've often seen
people washing their cars on their drives.
And they use soap, not just clear water. The
water level here is very high. The soap goes
straight into the ground water and then into the
river.
You should walk around here next weekend
and stop people who wash their cars.
Environmentally friendly shopping.
Here are the protectors of the environment. We are
the film kids and we would like to present to you the
subject of environmentally friendly shopping.
We've done some interviews related
to this subject.
Do you leave the outer packaging in the
shop? Yes I just leave it here.
How much waiste do you produce per week?
About half a bag for three people.
Good afternoon.
This is David and Wayne speaking.
Today we are going to investigate about noise
pollution. Hello this is a decibel meter.
It is used to measure sound. At the minute we are
in the year 4 classroom measuring the sound.
As you can see, the arrow there is moving.
This afternoon in the year 4 classroom the
noise level ranged from about 56 db to 59 db.
While we were in the playground the sound
that we measured was about 60 db to 65 db.
The noise level on that is about 60 db to 69 db.
And that machine behind us is about 75 db to 79
db.
I think that's the highest sound level we've got
so far.
Good afternoon and welcome to
'HMKS News Live'
Today we will be talking about dog fouling, a
problem that affects everyone. Look at the
example here at St. James' field. It's just a mess.
There's plenty of bags available in the
information centre for people to pick
the mess up off the pavement.
How many people get fined? It depends.
In certain areas we've got a lot of people.
In other areas we haven't got anybody to
catch the people dog fouling.
Most of the offences are done at night.
Very few people are prepared to go out
and catch people at night.
Is it easy to catch people?
No it's actually very difficult.
We are putting up posters to help
encourage people to clean up their dog mess.
Here is just one of our posters.
We live in Pradena, a very old village with
very interesting places.
But Pradena has got a problem. Its' streets
are dirty. That creates a bad image.
Although the streets are cleaned, papers,
plastic bags and bottles appear quickly again.
Now we are going to develop a campaign
to involve the neighbours of Pradena in
keeping the village as clean as possible.
The name: 'Keep Pradena Clean'
We are going to make leaflets which will be
put in post boxes, and posters
which will be put up in bars and shops.
We will do more interviews and
finish with a short commercial.
This is a campaign to respect Pradena's
environment. We're giving this message to the
neighbours so that they know what we want to do.
Do you think that it is ok to throw
waste on the ground?
We hope, that we can enjoy
the beauty of our village in the future.
I think there is too much pollution in Haifa.
I think the main reason for the pollution
is the traffic. In Haifa there are often
serious traffic jams.
The situation isn't good because
we have a lot of pollution
coming from the very crowded
industrial areas which surround
the suburbs of Haifa.
Many people throw their garbage
next to the bins and not into them.
When you view Haifa from a
distance, you see a city which is
clean and well kept.
However, when you look more closely,
you discover a city which has to
deal on a daily basis with
environmental problems.
Every day, more than
600 tons of garbage,
is transported to the city dump.
The Kishon river is contaminated
with industrial waste which is
dumped into the river.
On the other hand there are
environmental groups
which are endeavouring to lesson
the amount of pollution in the city.
If we are talking about education,
let's check what is happening
in our school.
At our school we have a
student's council,
and every year we hold a competetion
for cleanliness.
The aim of this competetion is to keep
the school clean.
We choose two to three pupils from
one class to go from class to class,
once a week and they check how
clean and tidy the class is.
I check the class decorations,
the blackboards
and the area around the bins.
Although people are aware of
pollution in the environment,
there is still a lot of room for
improvement.
Don't forget!
Everything begins with you.
